The Tree Arbour
We have two tree arbours at Prebendal Manor. One is clipped from the bay tree close to the Tithe Barn door. The other is in the field. I have only been able to find one medieval painting that shows a tree arbour. In the painting the arbour is cut from a short row of trees. Ours have both been cut from a tree, but the result is the same. The arbour is another place where you can sit in the shade to enjoy views of the garden. The hawthorn has the added benefit of producing fragrant flowers, which give off a very heady scent on a hot day.
